MINIMA_WEEK THREE_LIZ WHITE

I decided i needed to do a lot more development of my ideas this week so I felt like I had a sound concept. First I had a play with the idea of Ikea boxes, coming out from each other.

While i really liked this idea, I had a feeling that because of it being mentioned in the tutorial several other group members may also look into it...Lucky I went away from it as my prediction was right! I do like the "film strip" idea mentioned by Sam (tutor) as a clever way of representing the demountability of our designs. So my next exploration was into the Charles Eames Armchair, also mentioned in the tutorial. This research led me into thinking about modular design.

While I like the forms i could develop through this method i be
lieve that the setting up/demounting of the design could prove too difficult to represent on a poster and model, hence I steered away from this idea. I also looked into "form following function" as a development tool to help me understand the spacial requirements of my minima.

After looking at from following function I did a bit of research into boat design. I decided I liked the way that boats have their wet areas set up for minimal space, so I will use this kind of set up for my minima.

The next thing I considered was how to enclose the minima, for this I looked into Japanese Architecture.

Here a a couple of the images I gained some inspiration from. Till next week then....
